What
type of training would be best for us, In-Home Training or Group
Workshops?
It depends. If you are having troubles, such as behavioral problems in the
home like excessive barking, jumping, chewing, etc. In-Home training will
be more helpful because we can focus specifically on problems in the home. However, Group
workshops are very effective environments that enrich your dog's learning
experience through socialization and distraction proofing exercises.
Why
should I choose your training services over another?
Our team has many years of formalized dog training through the
United States Air Force and continuing education courses approved by the
Association of Pet Dog Trainers, APDT. We emphasize positive reinforcement
techniques based on operant conditioning
training methods that use reinforcement and rewards, not punishment, to
achieve desired behavior.
We are a Certified Evaluator for the American Kennel Club's Canine Good
Citizen program. Our group classes are structured around the AKC
Canine Good Citizen (CGC) curriculum. Our goal is to
change the world one dog at a time. We look forward to serving you!
What
are your training methods?
Our strategy is based on the operant conditioning learning theory. Behavior that is positively
reinforced will reoccur; intermittent reinforcement is particularly
effective; Information should be presented in small amounts so that
responses can be reinforced (shaping); Reinforcements will generalize
across similar stimuli (stimulus generalization) producing secondary
conditioning. Finally we give you
the tools you need to communicate with your pet so that you can continue
training even when we are gone. Let us show you how.
What
should I bring to the Group Workshop?
It is important that you bring your dog's shot records to the first
class you attend. If we do not have verification of the vaccinations, we
unfortunately cannot allow you to participate. We take the health of our
students very seriously.
How
long do the Group Workshops last?
The training sessions last about one hour. The beginning of the
class will include some social/visitation for the class members. We let
the dogs say their "hellos" before we get to work.
Where
are the Group Workshops located?
We offer our Group Training classes at local veterinarians offices.
This makes training convenient for you, our customers. Of course our
In-Home training will take place in your home at your convenience. It is
important for the whole family to be involved in the training. We like to
structure our training where most members of the family can be present.
This makes for more successful training.
What
if I miss a class?
Not a problem. Our Group Classes come with a monthly maintenance
class you may use the make up a missed class. Just remember consistency and repetition are key to training
your dog. We just ask that you try not to let too much time pass between
lessons. But we understand that "life gets in the way."
How
will In-Home training benefit us?
The In-Home environment is ideal for your dog's learning
experience. This environment reduces the stress and anxiety that is
present when the dog is away from home or in the presence of other dogs.
In-Home training focuses on modifying the unwanted canine behavior in the
place where you experience it most, your home. Additionally the obedience
training progress is improved when the teacher to student ratio is
reduced.
Should
we do both In-Home and Group Sessions?
Mixing both private In-Home and Group Workshops will advance your
dog's obedience level at a rapid pace. Both types of training provide the
customized tools to resolve behavioral issues at home and in public.
How
old should my dog be before I start training?
Responsibility training can start as early as five weeks of age.
Formal obedience training depends on the puppy's physical and mental
abilities.

My
dog is 5 years old. Can you train an older dog?
Absolutely! Many mature dogs begin obedience training with their
owners and enjoy the learning experience. In the
Canine Education 1.0 &
2.0 Group
Workshops we have dogs of all ages. This diverse group setting provides a
true sample of what is experienced in the real world.
We
are having a lot of aggression problems in the home. Will training help?
Yes. In-Home Training is the best for these types of problems.
We address aggression issues very seriously and practice the most
effective, proven behavior management techniques designed to help the dog
and owner.
Should
my kids attend class?
Absolutely! Your dog is a member of your family. In order for training to be
as successful as possible all family members should be present. We want
everyone to learn the expectations and the tools needed to make having a
pet a positive family experience. Parents are responsible for the
supervision and control of their children at all times.
